(AP) — Jean Knight, a New Orleans-born soul singer known for her 1971 hit “Mr. Big Stuff,” has died at 80.Family, friends, fans and veterans of the music world mourned the loss of the Grammy-nominated singer who was considered a musical powerhouse and an integral part of New Orleans’ cultural legacy.Knight died Wednesday of natural causes in Tampa, Florida, where she was living, said family representative Mona Giamanco. She confirmed the death to The Associated Press on Monday afternoon. “Jean Knight’s legacy is not just a musical one; it is a testament to the enduring love between an artist, her hometown and the fans who adored her,” the singer’s family said in a statement. CORONADO, Calif. -- Police officers in the City of Coronado made a unique and very cute rescue on Thanksgiving.A baby sea lion was attempting to cross State Route 75 near Leyte Road, a portion of highway that connects Coronado to Imperial Beach, when some good Samaritans stopped to help the baby animal cross the road. Motorcyclist killed in hit-and-run crash; suspect arrested

CAMPO, Calif. -- A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run crash last week in the Campo area, authorities said.The collision occurred Thursday, Nov. 23, around 5:28 p.m. on Sheridan Rd., located west of Custer Rd, Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Monday.According to authorities, a 45-year-old man driving a 2015 Jeep Wrangler was traveling westbound on Sheridan Rd. when his vehicle crossed over the into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2020 Kawasaki motorcycle driven by a 26-year-old man. With Ontario lowering the age threshold for publicly funded breast cancer screenings for people with average risk by an entire decade, thousands more will be eligible for their first mammogram come fall, 2024.Starting at age 40, people will be able to self refer for the screening every two years, which means an additional 130,000 mammograms will be completed in the province annually.What is a mammogram and how is it conducted?A screening mammogram is a test conducted usually on asymptomatic people to check for breast cancer and ideally detect it early if present.“It’s a test that uses an X-ray beam to take a picture of a compressed breast,” explains Dr. Supriya Kulkarni, breast radiologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. 'Assailants in custody' after reports of shots fired on Northwestern University Chicago campus

CHICAGO — Authorities responded after reports of shots fired on Northwestern's Chicago campus on Monday evening. In a message shared on Northwestern University's website at 9:07 p.m., the university confirmed that Chicago and Northwestern police were responding to reports of shots fired outside of Wieboldt Hall near East Chicago Avenue and North Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville.In an update shared at 9:32 p.m., the university provided an "all clear" and confirmed that the campus has been secured. In the update, university officials said "assailants are in custody."
