(The Hill) -- The driver of a box truck was detained after a crash near the White House late Monday, the Secret Service said.Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said in a tweet that uniformed officers detained the driver after the box truck collided with security barriers on the north side of Lafayette square.No injuries were reported, he said.Guglielmi added in a subsequent post that the truck was deemed safe and a preliminary investigation revealed the driver may have intentionally struck the barriers.Charges will be filed by U.S. Park Police, the Secret Service spokesperson said.--Developing

DEC urges drivers 'give turtles a brake' on world turtle day

(NEWS10) -- On World Turtle Day, which happens to be Tuesday, the Department of Environmental Conservation is asking drivers to "give turtles a brake," as thousands of turtles are killed each year by unsuspecting drivers. If you find an injured turtle, the DEC says a licensed wildlife rehabilitator may be able to assist. The DEC also reminds people not to take turtles home, as all native turtles are protected by law and cannot be kept without a DEC permit.If drivers are able, they are encouraged to slow down to avoid hitting turtles, and if they can, safely move the turtle to the shoulder on the side of the road in the direction it was facing. Italy's Meloni vows support for flood-hit Emilia-Romagna

A 27-year-old man was fatally shot at a Rialto home on Saturday, May 20, by one of his grandfathers who told police his life was threatened, authorities said.Just before 7 p.m. an altercation started at the residence on the 2100 block of North Apple Avenue, said Cpl. Nic Parcher, a spokesman for Rialto police.The 77-year-old grandfather, who would say his life was threatened, armed himself with a gun and shot Kaylon Underwood, police said.Information on what led to the confrontation was not released.
