OCALA, Fla. (AP) — A judge granted a $154,000 bond Friday for a white Florida woman charged with fatally shooting a Black neighbor through her front door. Susan Louise Lorincz, 58, of Ocala returned to court in Marion County a day after she pleaded not guilty to a first-degree felony charge of manslaughter with a firearm, as well as counts of culpable negligence, battery and assault. As a condition of her bond, Circuit Court Judge Robert Hodges ordered Lorincz to wear an ankle monitor and to stay away from the family of her slain neighbor, 34-year-old Ajike Owens. The courtroom was packed with relatives and supporters of Owens, a mother of four children. One of the family’s attorneys, Anthony Thomas, told reporters after the Friday hearing that they would continue to push for Lorincz to face a more serious charge of second-degree murder. “We don’t believe that Susan had any sort of respect at all for human life,” Thomas said. “This wasn’t something where she was cle...Air Canada rejects passenger compensation claims for delays caused by tech issue

MONTREAL — Air Canada has rejected compensation claims from some travellers who were among the thousands affected by flight delays caused by computer problems in recent weeks — a response it now calls “erroneous,” with cash offers en route. In messages to some customers, the airline initially said the information technology fumble was out of its hands, relieving it of obligations to pay them compensation.“In this instance, the compensation you are requesting does not apply because the disruption was caused by an event outside of our control. This flight is delayed due to an unforeseen technology issue, impacting one of our suppliers, which is impacting our operations,” the airline said Thursday in an email to passenger Douglas Judson.Judson said he arrived more than three hours late after his June 1 flight from Winnipeg to Toronto was delayed due to the IT defect.“I find the dishonesty and disrespect of it the most galling,” he said in a phone inte...A sneak peek at the Squishmallows coming to McDonald's Happy Meals

Editor’s Note: The video above shows KXAN News Today’s top headlines for June 9, 2023(KXAN) -- Shoppers buying Texas-grown watermelons may notice a dip in quality this year. According to Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service experts, frequent rainfall as the fruit grew on the vine led to lower brix measurements compared to recent years. Brix measures sugar in fruit. Despite that, it shouldn't be too difficult to find Texas-grown watermelons. The fruit is growing on more acres in South Texas. Last year, dry conditions meant fewer watermelons available, but they had very high brix scores. The rains this year also meant some growers are dealing with disease like downy mold and a fungus called fusarium. Those things can also lower the quality of the fruit.“Yields are better than last year, but quality is down, and I think if you asked growers, they’d say it’s average across the board,” Juan Anciso, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension horticulturist said. “Harvest is wrapping up in the [Rio Gra...Community violence intervention group visits northeast Austin apartment where 14-year-old girl was shot
