NEW YORK (AP) — Darin Ruf was cut Monday by the Mets as the team set its opening day roster, ending his brief stint in New York following a failed trade.Speedy outfielder Tim Locastro won the final bench spot over Ruf, acquired from San Francisco at the trade deadline last August to provide the right-handed half of a DH platoon with Daniel Vogelbach.Ruf, however, batted only .152 with no homers, seven RBIs and a .413 OPS in 74 plate appearances over 28 games with the Mets.Bothered by a sore wrist this spring, he went 5 for 30 (.167) with one RBI, two extra-base hits, nine strikeouts and a .498 OPS in 11 Grapefruit League games. To get him, the Mets sent J.D. Davis, left-hander Thomas Szapucki and minor league pitchers Nick Zwack and Carson Seymour to the Giants. Davis thrived at the plate in San Francisco last year and Szapucki was moved to the bullpen, where he compiled a 1.98 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 10 relief outings covering 13 2/3 innings. The 36-year-old Ruf was designated for a...Lyft to pick up new CEO amid deepening post-pandemic losses

Lyft co-founders Logan Green and John Zimmer are relinquishing their leadership roles to make way for a former Amazon executive as the ride-hailing service struggles to recover from the pandemic while long-time rival Uber has been regaining its momentum.Under the new order announced Monday, Green will step down as Lyft’s CEO effective April 17 and Zimmer will give up his role as the San Francisco company’s president at the end of June.David Risher, who helped build Amazon into an e-commerce powerhouse, will replace Green as CEO. Green will remain involved with Lyft as its non-executive chairman while Zimmer will be vice chairman after he leaves management. The shake-up comes about a month after Lyft disclosed that it suffered a $588 million loss for the final three months of last year, more than doubling from the same 2021 period, and provided a dismal outlook for 2023. That deepened a downturn in Lyft’s stock, which has pushed its shares below $10, a roughly 80% dr...Jury being chosen for sergeant charged in protest killing

The Red Sox continue to trim their roster, and made a notable demotion on Monday, optioning Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester.Dalbec, the team’s everyday first baseman in 2021 and most of 2022, struggled last year and lost the job to Eric Hosmer, and then, Triston Casas. He was demoted to Triple-A to clear a roster spot for Casas’ debut last September, and the rookie quickly supplanted his struggling predecessor.Dalbec hit .304 over 18 Grapefruit League games, though he struggled towards the end of that span. The Red Sox spent the preseason using him all over the infield to see if he could handle a bench role. Ultimately, they seem to be choosing Yu Chang, instead.Chang hasn’t been an everyday player the way Dalbec was in the last two seasons of his three years in the majors, but he also didn’t strike out 274 times in 250 games between 2021-22, and offers more defensive upside than Dalbec. A versatile infielder, Chang arrived at camp late last week, after be...Latest news
