DETROIT (AP) — Federal accident investigators want automakers to install systems on all new vehicles that warn drivers when they go over the speed limit, and it is asking regulators to figure out how states can electronically limit speeds on vehicles driven by repeat traffic offenders. The National Transportation Safety Board’s recommendations to combat excessive speeding came after a hearing Tuesday on a January 2022 crash in North Las Vegas, Nevada. In that crash, the driver of a Dodge Challenger with a long record of speeding ran a red light at 103 miles per hour (166 kilometers per hour) and slammed into a minivan, killing himself and eight others. The board, which can only make recommendations and has no regulatory authority, determined that the Challenger driver’s excessive speed and failure to obey a stop sign and red light caused the crash. His impairment from cocaine and PCP contributed. But it also found that the state of Nevada failed to seriously punish the dri...QuickLogic: Q3 Earnings Snapshot

DENVER (KDVR) -- Denver has 78 official neighborhoods, but not all of them are the same. In fact, one big way that Denver neighborhoods differ from one another is housing prices.FOX31 looked at data from the Zillow Home Value Index, which measures the typical home value in a given region to find which neighborhoods in Denver are the most and least expensive. How could higher property tax payments affect Colorado’s economy? WASHINGTON (AP) — The House voted Tuesday to prevent a government shutdown after new Republican Speaker Mike Johnson was forced to reach across the aisle to Democrats when hard-right conservatives revolted against his plan. The bipartisan tally, 336-95, showed Johnson’s willingness to leave his right-flank Republicans behind and work with Democrats to temporarily keep government running — the same political move that cost the last House speaker, Kevin McCarthy, his job just weeks ago. This time, Johnson of Louisiana appeared on track for a temporarily better outcome as the House approved the stopgap package to keep the government running into the new year. The Senate would act next, ahead of Friday’s shutdown deadline.“Making sure that government stays in operation is a matter of conscience for all of us. We owe that to the American people,” Johnson said earlier Tuesday at a news conference at the Capitol. But the new Republican leader faced the same political problem that led to...South Florida man arrested for allegedly installing hidden cameras in gym bathrooms

A 30-year-old Pompano Beach man was arrested and is facing charges after allegedly installing hidden cameras in the bathrooms of multiple YouFit gyms across South Florida. The investigation began in September when a hidden camera was discovered under the sink in the handicap stall of the men’s bathroom at the YouFit gym located at 4032 W Hillsboro Blvd in Deerfield Beach. “This is a very disturbing and despicable crime,” said BSO Spokesperson Carey Codd. “This individual is accused of surreptitiously placing hidden cameras inside men’s handicap bathroom stalls at fitness facility in Deerfield Beach.”Following the discovery, the gym’s regional manager instructed staff to check their facilities, leading to the detection of additional cameras in Boynton Beach, Davie and another Deerfield Beach location. The suspect, identified as Bernardo Santiago Lopez, also visited a YouFit in Miami within a two-month period. “As part of the investigati...Teachers in Andover reach deal to end strike

Police in Concord, New Hampshire are investigating after they said they found skimmers on credit card machines at checkout lanes in two separate stores last month. Concord police shared details about the case on Monday night. Weeks earlier, on Oct. 19, police said workers at the Walmart location on Loudon Road in town told authorities that a loss prevention associate had found a credit card skimmer attached to a self-checkout register. Police said a loss prevention associate at the Market Basket location on Storrs Street later reached out on Oct. 27, saying they had also found a skimmer on an express lane checkout.Concord police on Monday said investigators determined both skimmers were installed by the same two people on Oct. 17. Asked how someone would get a skimmer onto a machine in a store with other people around, Concord Police Lt. Marc McGonagle responded.“I’m assuming they are practiced,” he told 7NEWS. “They work in a group and they pay attention a...Latest news
