Petition circulating against SF pickleball courts SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – Pickleball is stirring up controversy in San Francisco’s Presidio Heights neighborhood. A resident created a petition complaining about the noise from the popular sport.Neighbors from behind the Presidio Wall pickleball courts have complained and actually made a petition against the sound that comes from these courts, but people who play there daily say the sound doesn't travel very far."It’s pretty self-contained, and the court noise is only at certain times of day too. I don't think it's disruptive,” said Lucas Ho, who plays at the courts. With pickleball becoming all the rage, San Francisco has opened public pickleball courts throughout the city to make it more accessible. Time running out to remove sailboat stuck at Stinson Beach "I love it, just got the pickleball bug and it is hella fun. The community is awesome,” said Zane Roshe, another player. When the Presidio Wall courts get busy, you can hear the “pock-pock” pickleball sound from a bloc...

Time running out to remove sailboat stuck at Stinson Beach STINSON BEACH, CALIF. The captain is hopeful a new attempt to get it back to sea is just around the corner.“We have tried 30 different ways to get this out,” Captain Logan Walker said.    San Jose women charged after infested langsat fruit seized Walker owns the craft wedged into the heavy sand at Stinson Beach. For days, he, along with some volunteers, have labored to free the sailboat and allow Walker to sail back to Seattle.  Walker says they are pushing forward even after their failed efforts on Wednesday, but time is starting to run out. The Marin County Sheriff’s Department informed Walker his boat was an environmental hazard, and if it is not moved by August 31, it would be removed.  Logan struc...

John Isner heads to retirement after US Open last-set tiebreaker losses in singles and doubles NEW YORK (AP) — John Isner rested his chin on clasped hands, the words coming slowly, the tears welling in his eyes, as he spoke during a news conference at the U.S. Open on Thursday, his last day as a professional tennis player.“It’s been a huge part of my life. It’s tough to say goodbye. It’s not easy,” the 38-year-old American said. “But eventually, this day would come. It’s hard to prepare for the emotions of it.”As career-ending days go, it would be hard to come up with a more appropriate way for Isner to bow out than a pair of final-set tiebreakers — one in singles, one in doubles — and, while he would have preferred a victory or two, of course, he did appreciate the raucous crowd support and standing ovations he was showered with at each defeat. The 6-foot-10 (2.08-meter) Isner announced the week before play began at Flushing Meadows that this Grand Slam tournament would mark his farewell, and the guy who long was his country’s best male player bowed out in the second round of...

Rainbows, drag shows, movies: Lebanon’s leaders go after perceived symbols of the LGBTQ+ community BEIRUT (AP) — Rainbows, school books, movies and drag shows have all been targeted in Lebanon in recent weeks as politicians, religious leaders and vigilante groups step up a campaign against the LGBTQ+ community in a country that has long shown relative tolerance. At a time when Lebanon is in the grips of one of the world’s worst economic meltdowns in more than a century, the country and its leaders have been deeply split on how to deal with the crisis. Politicians and religious leaders have intensified a campaign that in many ways mirrors the culture wars in the United States, raising alarm over symbols and trends that might normalize queerness as an existential threat to society. It comes at a time when an escalating crackdown on the LGBTQ+ community is also underway elsewhere in the region.
