Alameda County Department of Children and Family Services workers failed at nearly every turn to protect 8-year-old Sophia Mason in the last 14 months of her life — breaking more than a dozen state child welfare regulations and later falsifying records to cover their tracks, according to a lawsuit filed by the family against the county Monday.“It’s horrifying — not only did they fail to protect Sophia while she was alive, even in her death they’re failing to admit mistakes that they made,” said Carly Sanchez, an attorney for Sophia’s grandmother, Silvia Johnson. The lawsuit, filed Monday in Alameda County Superior Court, comes just over a year after Sophia’s body was found decomposing in a bathtub inside a house more than 100 miles from her childhood home. SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – There may be a breakthrough in slowing or stopping the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease. A drug trial is underway at UCSF and at medical centers across the country to see if giving a drug before symptoms occur is what’s needed to keep people functioning at a steady level as they grow older.“We have been trying to find ways to reverse the disease or to slow down the disease for almost 50 years now,” said Julio Rojas, a neurologist at UCSF. East Bay police department offering $75K hiring bonus Rojas says the drug Lecanemab has been shown to reduce the amount of amyloid plaque in the brains of dementia patients, and while those who took it in a previous study had less severe cases, they continued to decline.
