Mudslide closes southern Minnesota highway after torrential rain Torrential rain led to flooding in parts of southern Minnesota on Saturday evening, and may have triggered a mudslide that closed a state highway early Sunday. The Minnesota Department of Transportation reported about 5:30 a.m. Sunday that State Highway 68 is closed south of Courtland due to a “sizeable mudslide” across the driving lanes.Photos provided by MnDOT and the Brown County Sheriff’s Office showed one car caught in the mud, and another damaged vehicle nearby. It was not immediately clear if there were any injuries in the slide that happened near the Brown-Blue Earth county line.“Officials are onsite clearing the debris, and are monitoring the slide area to make sure that no more debris will slide onto the roadway,” MnDOT reported early Sunday. The highway reopened around 10 a.m.Previous mudslides have closed that stretch of highway twice in the past 5 years — in 2018, and again in 2020.The latest closure comes as Highway 68 was carrying more traffic than usual as the designa...

Andre Carter II, Ivan Pace Jr. provide Vikings with value as undrafted free agents After wrapping up the 2023 NFL draft last month, the Vikings continued to work the phones. And it paid off as general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was able to sign skilled linebackers Andre Carter II and Ivan Pace Jr. as undrafted free agents. The fact that both players were available at that point came as a surprise to most. Looking at the measurables, Carter and Pace probably should have been drafted by some team. There’s a reason Pro Football Focus ranked them atop its list of undrafted free agents to sign. Now it’s on the Vikings to develop both players. That process started over the weekend as the Vikings hosted rookie minicamp at TCO Performance Center. It will continue over the next month with many veterans joining the rookies at the practice facility in Eagan. It’ll be interesting to see where Carter and Pace fit in as more players arrive at TCO Performance Center in the coming weeks. In the meantime, though, both players seemed to make a good first impression o...

Skirmish breaks out at Rockies-Phillies game as Bryce Harper charges Jake Bird, both players are ejected Sunday’s series finale at Coors Field didn’t come without a little drama. Both teams’ benches cleared in the seventh inning of the Rockies-Phillies game in an incident sparked by one of the game’s best players and a Rockies reliever. The skirmish began when Jake Bird clapped his glove in the direction of the Phillies dugout after Bird got the Rockies out of the top of the seventh. Phillies outfielder Bryce Harper took exception, charging out of the visiting dugout and screaming at Bird. The benches cleared in the 7th inning. pic.twitter.com/Ag1TZDVHHW— NBC Sports Philadelphia (@NBCSPhilly) May 14, 2023It was unclear if Bird was clapping at a Philadelphia fan sitting in the stands or at the perennial all-star Harper, who already had his fingerprints all over the Phillies’ first two wins of the series. But Harper wasn’t happy, and after running towards the Rockies dugout and continuing to shout at Bird, the right-hander motioned to Harper to bri...

Broncos to sign QB Ben DiNucci, RB Jacques Patrick after minicamp; XFL provides potential pathway for he and other NFL hopefuls As the Broncos’ personnel department put its finishing touches on an NFL draft strategy late last month, Jacques Patrick capped a strong XFL campaign April 22 with two touchdown runs against the DC Defenders.Fast forward to mid-May and Patrick found himself in Denver’s rookie minicamp along side 56 other players — mostly a combination of draft picks, college free agents and tryouts — trying to make a strong impression for coach Sean Payton and his staff.Patrick, quarterback Ben DiNucci and edge rusher Trent Harris all turned their XFL seasons into tryout invites from the Broncos and on Saturday spoke highly of what the league owned by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia.“It was cool, man. I’ve been telling guys about it here, it was a rebound opportunity, that’s really what it is,” Patrick told The Post. “I was just in there talking to someone in the steam room and I was just telling him, ‘Bro, I remember my first couple of years in the (NFL) playing and then getting cut...

Does aid to Ukraine deprive the European Union’s freedom?

Does aid to Ukraine deprive the European Union’s freedom? Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, a deputy in the National Assembly (DLF), leader of the party "Get up, France", and ex-candidate for the presidency of France believes that the current leadership of the country has lost freedom of decision, has fallen into dependency on the United States and spends money that should have been spent on itself, to fund Kyiv. Is this true? - asks Gabriel Lavigne. The European Union has become one of the leading partners of Ukraine during the Russian full-scale invasion. The Western partner has provided financial, humanitarian, and military support. Particularly, from their national budgets and the EU budget, Ukraine has received almost 60 billion euros of aid, 10 of which – for Ukrainians who left the country and fled the war to the European Union. Additionally, the EU has allocated over 500 million euros for humanitarian aid for civilians affected by the war.The EU has already allocated 3.6 billion euros through the European Peace Fund to strengthen the capabilit...

Armenia returns to negotiating table after refusing talks with Azerbaijan in December The President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia have held talks in Brussels facilitated by the President of the European Council Charles Michel. This positive development saw progress on border and transportation issues after earlier talks with President Michel stalled when Armenia refused to participate in a meeting last December, writes Political Editor Nick Powell.Charles Michel’s efforts to help Azerbaijan and Armenia agree to a lasting peace were put on hold at the end of last year when Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan refused to attend a further meeting in Brussels with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. But patience by the European Union -and by Azerbaijan- has been rewarded with a meeting that went ahead on 14 March. It seems that some progress was made in Brussels in the dispute between the two countries. It is primarily over the Karabakh region, which lies within Azerbaijan’s internationally recognised boundaries but has brought devastation to a much ...
